We always undertake checks to ascertain that your credit card number is genuine. This can take some time in certain cases, so please bear with us if your order is not processed immediately.
We can cite a genuine case of attempted credit card fraud, namely a Mr Ben Mark, who placed an order with us for despatch by courier to the following address:
35 SHOKUNBI STREET
OFF POST OFFICE ROAD
MUSHIN
LAGOS
NIGERIA 23401
Essentially, Ben Mark is a crook, a credit card fraudster - if Ben Mark actually exists, as it is highly likely that this is one of many fake names used by fraudsters who make a living out of stealing credit card numbers and using them for fraudulent transactions. Note: A fraudster only needs to steal credit card numbers, not the cards themselves. All that is needed is the credit card number and expiry date. The fraudster is gambling on receiving the goods before the real owner of the credit card number notices that a fraudulent transaction has taken place.
Ben Mark is currently under investigation with the British High Commission in Lagos - along with many other fraudsters. We check out all shipments to Nigeria (and most other African countries) with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and report suspect cases to the relevant authorities in the countries from which they operate. Watch out for emails like this one, which recently arrived in our mail box:
""My Name is Jacqueline Ava i reside #4640 North Sheridan Road, Illinois, Chicago 60601. I will like to Order for some of your Products and ship them Directly to my Client address in West Africa (NG)."
Read the following story at the
BBC website about "Mike", who decided to have a bit of fun with the
fraudsters:
"Turning the tables on Nigeria's email conmen": http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3887493.stm
Mike is a "scambaiter," dedicated to fighting back against those who send out
the notorious 419 emails that promise untold wealth to anyone gullible or naive
enough to disclose their bank details.
See this Metropolitan Police site
for further information on 419 emails and how to deal with them:
